Minsk World

A week ago Saturday we made our first big venture out since we moved here. We decided to go to Minsk World. A number of years ago Russia was trying to raise some money. One of their transactions was to sell the city of Shenzhen an old air craft carrier. Shenzhen decided to turn it into a tourist attraction. I guess it would be like going to a military museum, but for some reason it feels strange. The kids loved it though. Where else would they let four year olds shoot automatic rifles and bazookas? At least they weren’t shooting live ammo, but it is still funny in my mind. You can buy toy airplanes made of bullet casings, but we didn’t get one…this time. It was actually our second trip there. We went about four years ago just after we moved to Hong Kong. Then the park was pretty full and tons of people asked to take pictures with the boys. I was afraid it would be absolutely crazy with all five kids, but we were pleasantly surprised to find we went on a slow day. There were still plenty of people taking pictures of the kids, they were just nice enough not to ask them to pose. One of the strangest parts of the experience is to get to the end of the tour of the carrier and find a stage with real Russian dancers performing. Who would have thought.
